The romantic comedy manga series “Horimiya” is getting its first anime series adaptation that will premiere in early 2021. A star-studded cast has also been announced for the show along with other production details.
‘Horimiya’ release date, possible episode count
The announcement of “Horimiya’s” release date window arrived shortly after the new anime project was announced this month. The series will premiere sometime in January 2021, but a specific release date might not be revealed until later this year.
Some reports are currently making the distinction that the release window applies to viewers in Japan. That means fans around the world will have to wait for further announcements of official streaming platforms that will carry “Horimiya.”
The anime series debut of “Horimiya” will be produced by CloverWorks, the same studio that has been producing “The Promised Neverland” and will be directed by Masashi Ishihama, who is also famous for his work in “Persona 5 The Animation.” The main protagonists Kyoko Hori and Izumi Miyamura will be voiced, respectively, by Haruka Tomatsu who is also the voice actor for Asuna Yuuki in “Sword Art Online” and Koki Uchiyama who also plays as Kei Tsukishima in “Haikyu” and Shigaraki in “My Hero Academia.”
“Horimiya” anime will be based on the same title manga written by its original creator HERO and illustrated by Daisuke Hagiwara, which began its serialization in 2011 on Monthly G Fantasy magazine. Its publication continues to this day with the 15th volume having been released just last Sept. 18. However, it would not be surprising if “Horimiya” debuts with a one-cour season that is usually composed of 12 to 13 episodes.
‘Horimiya’ spoilers, characters: What to expect
As the title suggests, the plot of “Horimiya” will revolve around its two main characters -- Hori and Miyamura -- who attends the same high school but will be brought together by their secrets. Hori is one of the popular students in their school due to her friendliness and good grades. She is almost like the school’s “it girl” but she is much different at home where she dresses down, do not wear makeup, do the chores, and looks after his younger brother.

On the other hand, Miyamura is known as an otaku fanboy among his schoolmates, who wears glasses and does not really befriend others. Like Hori, he conducts himself much differently outside the school and proudly dons his nine piercings that are covered by his hair when in school. One day, when things will change for both of them in “Horimiya,” they will find each other in their out-of-school personas and will lead to them building their relationship from being good friends to being a couple.
