“House of Cards” season 6 will evidently focus on the White House takeover of Claire Underwood (Robin Wright). And the latest trailer for the political drama hints that new characters, Annette Shepherd (Diane Lane) and Bill Shepherd (Greg Kinnear), will be responsible for keeping things interesting and challenging for the new president of the United States.
Annette and Bill are seen in several remarkable scenes in the teasers and official trailer of “House of Cards” season 6. It is being implied that the Shepherd siblings have a long history with Frank Underwood (Kevin Spacey) and his family. However, Claire is obviously not willing to inherit whatever that relationship is between the Shepherds and the Underwoods.
Claire facing many adversaries, including Doug Stamper (Michael Kelly), in “House of Cards” season 6 is a given. But note that these new characters were previously described (via /Film) as having deep influences in the D.C. politics. That could mean that their arrival could affect many things, in a bad or good way, for Claire.
On the other hand, the Shepherd siblings are not simply just out to get Claire for no reason. Annette and Bill are also described as really passionate about America’s future. But it seems like Claire’s plans in “House of Cards” season 6 do not complement their vision.
Claire, Annette, and Bill are shown in an array of situations in “House of Cards” season 6. The beef among these characters is made obvious. But Annette is also shown in a couple of scenes publicly supporting Claire. The POTUS, at one point, seems hesitant while privately signing an executive order as Bill watches. This is likely linked to another scene where Claire is told she is being held “on a short leash.”
A third Shepherd family member, named Duncan (Cody Fern), is also entering the chaos in “House of Cards” season 6. He is Annette’s son described as “ambitious and devoted” and plays a key role in the “next generation of DC power players.”
It will be interesting to see whether a rivalry turns into an alliance between Claire and the Shepherds. With all of Frank’s former enemies most likely putting the blame on Claire, she certainly needs some powerful friends. “House of Cards” season 6 will be released on Nov. 2 on Netflix.
