Huawei has finally provided a date for the launch of its next flagship smartphone. The official invitation for the event has been published online and confirmed that the Huawei P50 will be unveiled later this month.

Huawei posted the Huawei P50 event poster on Weibo over the weekend to announce that its next flagship smartphone will be presented on Thursday, July 29, at 7:30 p.m. China Standard Time or July 22 at 4:30 a.m. PDT / 7:30 a.m. EDT. However, the available invitation seems to only address customers in China at this point, suggesting that there might not be a live stream for fans in other regions and that the initial sale of Huawei P50 could be focused in China.

The event poster does not say much about the device, and it does not even mention Huawei P50 by name. However, it can be recalled that in the company’s latest event held in early June, Huawei Consumer Business Group CEO Richard Yu that their next flagship is going to be Huawei P50. At the HarmonyOS event last month, Huawei said the flagship smartphone was supposed to launch in spring. But considering the ongoing semiconductor shortage and trade ban Huawei is facing, it is not surprising that the release window for the device has slightly changed.

Yu also reposted the invitation on Weibo and confirmed that they will also unveil a “new mobile imaging technology” that could be one of the main features of Huawei P50. It is worth noting that the device has been rumored to feature some high-end sensors, and it is expected to be the first device to sport the reported 1-inch Sony IMX800. This lines up with the first official teaser image released for Huawei P50. The device features two round rear-facing camera bumps stacked vertically, and the lower hump contains just one lens.

It has been widely reported that the Huawei P50 will be powered by a 4G version of the Snapdragon 888. This would be the first time in years that a flagship Huawei smartphone launches without the company’s in-house Kirin chip.
However, recent reports have also indicated that Kirin 9000 would still be available, but not on the entire Huawei P50 series. The Kirin-powered Huawei P50 Pro is rumored to enter the market first sometime in August. But Huawei will reportedly switch to using the Qualcomm SoC by the end of the year. All units of the base model, however, are expected to ship with the 4G Snapdragon 888 sometime in September.
