SpaceX is preparing for its next Starship flight test as early as the end of this month, with CEO Elon Musk outlining ambitious goals that include deploying the first V3 Starlink satellites and attempting the rocket system's first-ever upper-stage return to the launch tower.
Speaking during SpaceX’s earnings call, Musk said the company plans to launch Starship Flight 14 pending regulatory approval. The mission is expected to mark a major milestone in the development of the fully reusable rocket by attempting to catch the Starship upper stage using the giant mechanical arms at the company’s Texas launch site.
Unlike previous missions, where the upper stage splashed down in the ocean, this test aims to recover it on land after completing a full orbit around Earth. If successful, the Super Heavy booster will instead land in the Gulf of Mexico. SpaceX has already demonstrated tower catches for the Super Heavy booster three times, with the most recent success recorded in March 2025.
The company is currently inspecting the upper stage recovered from Starship Flight 13 after its splashdown. Musk said the data collected from that mission will help determine readiness for the upcoming landing attempt.
Flight 14 will also carry the first batch of V3 Starlink satellites, which Musk said are designed to deliver up to 10 times the broadband capacity and data density of current Starlink generations. SpaceX ultimately plans to launch as many as 60 V3 satellites on a single Starship mission, significantly expanding the global Starlink network.
The reusable Starship system is central to SpaceX’s long-term strategy, not only for strengthening its satellite internet business but also for supporting NASA’s future lunar missions, where Starship is expected to serve as a moon lander.
Looking ahead, Musk predicted that Starship launch operations will accelerate rapidly, with the company potentially reaching at least one launch per day within a year. As Starlink continues to drive SpaceX’s growth, the company expects Starship to play an increasingly important role in satellite deployment and the broader commercial space industry.
