The US plants of Hyundai Motor Co. and its subsidiary Kia Motors Corp. will resume operations this week, the companies announced.
A spokesperson said that production at their plants in Georgia and Alabama would flexibly operate beginning Monday, "depending on the developments in COVID-19 and local market conditions.
The companies are implementing thorough quarantine measures to safeguard against the virus.
Operations at Hyundai's Alabama plant has been suspended since Mar. 18 after one of its local employees contracted the coronavirus. On the other hand, Kia was forced to halt the Georgia plant since Mar. 30 due to a lack of engine supplies that comes from Hyundai's Alabama plant.
Most of Hyundai's overseas plants have been suspended to help prevent the spread of COVID-19, while all of the domestic Hyundai and Kia plants have suspended operations beginning Apr. 30.
Meanwhile, plant in India will also resume operations this week after the carmakers fulfilled all the requirements imposed by the local government as a condition to restart productions.
Operations at the Chennai plant has suspended since Mar. 22 in line with the local government's regulations to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
