Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said it brought down two MQM-170 drones south of Qeshm Island, in the Strait of Hormuz, placing the claim in a waterway where Iranian officials have made other drone-related claims.
The Guard described the aircraft as U.S.-owned.
Reports of explosion sounds on Qeshm circulated separately. Iranian reports did not connect the sounds with drone claims, as EconoTimes previously noted in its coverage of reports from the island.
The IRGC has made other drone-related claims near the strait. It previously said its Aerospace Force intercepted an MQ-1 east of the waterway. Separate Iranian reports also carried IRGC claims involving MQM-170 drones over southern Qeshm and an MQ-9 east of the strait.
