ANTARA reported that Pangdam XXII/Tambun Bungai Maj. Gen. Zainul Arifin put the toll at two dead and one missing after an Indonesian Army helicopter crashed on a Central Kalimantan firefighting mission.

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) identified the aircraft as an Mi-17V5, registration HA-5235, operated by Pusat Penerbangan Angkatan Darat (Penerbad), the Indonesian Army aviation unit. It was supporting fire suppression in Tanjung Puting National Park. The DGCA said eight people were aboard and five were receiving medical care.

The DGCA’s Nov. 4 preliminary release had given an earlier count of three reported dead, with two victims still being evacuated.

The DGCA said AirNav Indonesia provided initial flight information. Separately, it said air traffic service staff received the crash report. The agency said the helicopter was on an offshore water collection run for aerial firefighting when it crashed. Further information would come from relevant authorities, according to the DGCA.
