Anadolu Agency reported Sunday that the International Organization for Migration (IOM) estimated 1,150 people were displaced from four villages in Sudan’s North Darfur state between Oct. 29 and 31 as insecurity worsened.

Anadolu said IOM field teams tracked displacement from Muzbat, Oreri, Tari and Umm Haraz, all in Um Baru locality. Some families moved to other sites in the locality, while others went into Chad. IOM described security conditions in the area as dangerous and unstable, Anadolu reported.

The estimate followed an earlier IOM count of 895 people displaced from three Um Baru villages on Oct. 24, according to Anadolu.

The Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), a paramilitary group, have fought since April 2023. Anadolu reported that the war followed a disagreement over how the RSF should be incorporated into the military. Anadolu said the war has killed tens of thousands, with 13 million people forced from their homes.
