‘Insidious: Chapter 4’ recently added Josh Stewart to its new cast of characters. He is set to star together with Lin Shaye and Josh Wingate. The horror sequel is set to be directed by series newcomer Adam Robitel and is scheduled to premiere in theaters on October 2017.
According to Variety, Stewart was recently cast to play a yet unnamed character in the fourth installment of the ‘Insidious’ horror film series. The 39-year old actor is best known for his roles on television shows specifically in CBS’ ‘Criminal Minds’ as Detective William LaMontagne, Jr. and FX’s ‘Dirt’ as Holt McLaren.
Stewart also worked in various films including 2008’s ‘The Curious Case of Benjamin Button’, 2009’s ‘Law Abiding Citizen’, 2012’s ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, 2014’s ‘Transcendence’ and 2016’s ‘The Finest Hours’. He joins Josh Wingate of ‘General Hospital’ fame in the new cast. Lin Shaye, who has been in all the three preceding films, is also set to reprise her role as the parapsychologist Elise Rainer.
The first film in the series, ‘Insidious’, launched the popular cinematic franchise upon its release in 2011. It was directed by horror kingpin James Wan and starred Patrick Wilson and Rose Byrne as a couple whose son enters a comatose state after becoming a vessel for spirits intending to take over his body in order to live again. Wan’s original film received generally positive reviews from critics and became a financial success, earning $99.87 million worldwide on a production budget of $1.5 million.
Wan returned for the sequel, ‘Insidious: Chapter 2’, with Wilson and Byrne reprising their roles as Josh and Renai Lambert. The third installment, ‘Insidious: Chapter 3’, was taken over by Leigh Whannell in his directorial debut and served as a prequel film. According to The Numbers, all three films earned a total of $382.47 million worldwide and proved to be a bankable franchise.
According to Dread Central, Adam Robitel is set to helm the fourth film based on a script penned by Whannell. Robitel is an Emmy-nominated producer, writer and director best known for his work on the 2014 found-footage horror film ‘The Taking of Deborah Logan’.
‘Insidious: Chapter 4’ is an upcoming horror film scheduled to be released on October 20, 2017. It is produced by Blumhouse Productions, Entertainment One, Stage 6 Films, and LStar Capital. Columbia Pictures will be distributing the film in the United States.
