Intel has agreed to acquire Israeli quantum software company Classiq, a move the chipmaker says will pair algorithm-synthesis tools with its hardware as it develops a broader quantum-computing business.

Intel did not disclose financial terms. Bloomberg News reported a value of about $2.3 billion, citing people familiar with the matter. Globes reported a value of $2.2 billion. Reuters said it could not independently verify Bloomberg’s figure, and Intel declined to comment on the price. Calcalist’s CTech reported that the payment would include cash and stock; Intel has not confirmed that structure.

The agreement would bring Classiq’s automated quantum algorithm synthesis platform into Intel’s quantum effort. Intel would contribute its quantum software platform, silicon spin-qubit technology and semiconductor manufacturing expertise. The company says the combination would make it a full-stack quantum provider and add quantum processing units to its lineup of central processing units, graphics processing units and application-specific integrated circuits.

Intel says it has invested in quantum computing since 2015. It argues that Classiq’s tools could help address a scaling challenge: quantum circuits have often needed to be crafted individually. Intel likened Classiq’s role to electronic design automation and computer-aided design software used in conventional chip development.

Bloomberg’s report characterized quantum computing as an immature field where commercial uses are still emerging. Intel says it will continue supporting Classiq’s connections to other hardware platforms after the acquisition closes. The companies are expected to remain independent until then.

Regulatory approvals and other customary closing conditions remain outstanding. Intel is targeting completion in the first half of 2027.
