Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Monday indirect U.S.-Iran contacts continue, while Tehran requires Washington to lift its naval blockade and meet Iran's demands before the Strait of Hormuz reopens.

Baqaei put the proposal's implementation horizon at two days, conditional on Iran's demands being met. He said both conditions must be satisfied before a final agreement could begin or the strait could be reopened or secured.

The initiative came up during an Iranian delegation's visit to New York, Baqaei said. Tehran later received Washington's position through mediators, he added.

Qatar's Foreign Ministry said Oct. 27 that its mediation remained ongoing and that messages between Washington and Tehran were passing through Qatar. EconoTimes previously covered Doha's account of its continuing Iran consultations.

Anadolu reported that Baqaei identified Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi as having traveled to Doha to help facilitate the exchanges.
