Irritation over Greece boils and bursts European parliament

Greek Prime Minister, Alexis Tsipras is having hard time in European parliament after his speech.

Key highlights from the speech -

  • Mr. Tsipras is not blaming anyone as wicked foreigners instead blames Greek politicians, who through corruption, tax evasion led to this brink. However he was given a mandate by the Greek people to get a better dignified deal.
  • Mr. Tsipras criticizes the previous program as it failed to bring Greece back to growth path and asks for a program which would ensure that Greece reaches the light at end of tunnel.
  • He played the economic and Geo-political card saying an agreement would be in Europe's best interest.

Mr. Tsipras faced tough confrontation from his European counterparts.

German parliamentary member Manfred Weber is extremely critical.

Key highlights from his speech -

  • He asked Mr. Tsipras to apologize as his government called European negotiators as terrorists and blamed him for destroying confidence in Europe. He went further to say that the Greek Prime Ministers has not been open to his own people. Banks in Greece are still closed passed the Tuesday deadline.
  • He throws debt write offs away by saying it would have to come from the pockets of common people across Europe, when Greece is not even ready to take further reforms.
  • He also pointed out that at least there are 5 European countries, which have lower living standard than Greece.

The heat of debate in European parliament shows that many would like to see Greece leave Euro zone before payment more or seeing any debt write off.

Euro is currently trading at 1.101 against dollar.
