L’Orient Today reported Israeli artillery fire, gunfire and heavy bombardment in four southern Lebanese districts Sunday, after the two countries’ Oct. 20 talks on a U.S.-backed withdrawal framework.
In the Sour district, the outlet reported heavy bombardment and a separate attack in Mansouri. It also reported gunfire in Arnoun, in the Nabatieh district, and Khiam, in Marjayoun.
The outlet placed artillery fire near Khiam and Qabrikha in Marjayoun and between Haddatha and Haris in Bint Jbeil. Its account did not identify the bombardment in Mansouri as artillery fire.
Israel, Lebanon and the United States signed the framework June 26. It ties a phased Israeli withdrawal to the Lebanese army taking security control in designated areas and the verified disarmament of armed groups outside state control.
Lebanon’s army said July 26 that attacks in the south were hindering its deployment and preventing residents from returning. Lebanese and Israeli delegations met in Florida on Oct. 20 to review the framework, after strikes reported ahead of the talks.
