Italy could go for early election and the outcome could be messy

The election in Italy is not scheduled until 2018 but the country could go for an early election and if it does, there is a strong possibility that the right-wing populism would gather pace here too. Italy survived political chaos in December as the Incumbent Prime Minister Matteo Renzi resigned after a loss in the referendum.

However, there are some political forces that are pushing for an early election in Italy. Former Prime Minister Matteo Renzi is looking to make a comeback with a fresh win. Five Star Movement (FSM) leader Beppe Grillo is looking for an election at the earliest as his party’s momentum is already on the rise.

However, no party is expected to secure a majority, according to the polls. While the poll suggests that Matteo Renzi’s Democratic party will have most votes (30.5 percent), three Euro-skeptic parties will receive 53 percent of the votes, enough to make the election outcome messy and anti-euro. With large support among public, it is not imaginative to think that a referendum on euro is likely in Italy.
