The White House AI working group has divided its work among reporting, infrastructure and law enforcement, but Director of National Intelligence Jay Clayton has given no date for its recommendations.

In an interview, Clayton described a staged approach to recommendations on responsible artificial intelligence development. He did not specify when the first proposals would be ready.

The group has established three subcommittees. One handles reporting and response, another covers critical infrastructure and private-sector coordination, and the third addresses law enforcement and responsibility.

An agreement signed at the White House by President Donald Trump and technology leaders underpins the task force’s work. It sets out industry pledges to police AI risks, which Trump described as morally binding.

Clayton previously said AI heightens cybersecurity risks to critical U.S. systems. The group also plans to commission a report examining three areas of AI risk and other potential concerns.
