Fortnite Battle Royale is currently one of the hottest video game items on the market and as such, it was bound to attract its fair share of crazies. In one case, however, a petition to ban the game that started out as a joke has gained so much attention that it actually forced the original signers to backpedal on their intent. As arguably the biggest game right now, banning Fortnite would be next to impossible.
As Game Rant notes, the original petitioners named Chloe and Jaden never intended for the submission to be taken seriously when they posted it two months ago. It was just for a laugh and an attempt to poke fun at what was then a rising star in the industry.
Since then, however, the petition has gained almost 1,500 signatures and has also started receiving media coverage. This isn’t surprising since Fortnite Battle Royale is literally an attention magnet right now and any attempt at banning it would naturally cause a stir within the community.
Upon realizing that their joke was perhaps getting out of hand, Chloe decided to propose an alternative plan to those who are serious about having the game outright blocked. It essentially involves simply putting limitations on the title.
“With over a million players worldwide the most they could do would be putting restraints on [it] in some way which [I] hope could still help all of you (and me) with your significant others and kids,” she wrote.
As to why anyone would even sign the petition, it seems many people are angry about their children and loved ones getting “brainwashed” by the game, Gamespot reports. Some are complaining that their significant others have started neglecting them in favor of playing the 100-player phenomenon. Others are saying that their children are completely addicted to it. Either way, it’s free publicity for Epic Games.
