Jordan and Kazakhstan are preparing the first Central Asian meeting of the Aqaba Process for Nov. 6, bringing AI security into a forum established to coordinate counterterrorism efforts.

The Royal Hashemite Court said King Abdullah II and President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev would chair the gathering in Astana, which is expected to draw heads of state and international officials. The session is scheduled for Friday.

King Abdullah II ibn Al Hussein arrived in Kazakhstan on Thursday and met Tokayev at Akorda, Kazakhstan’s presidency said. The court had earlier announced the planned talks in Astana.

Uzbekistan’s presidential office said President Shavkat Mirziyoyev would attend a meeting of Central Asian leaders under the initiative. It said the agenda would cover ensuring security in the field of AI, preventing its use for terrorist or extremist purposes, and strengthening regional and international cooperation in responding to emerging technological challenges and threats.

King Abdullah II established the Aqaba Process in 2015 to bring countries together on counterterrorism and counter-extremism efforts. During Thursday’s talks, Tokayev said economic ties continued to underpin relations between Kazakhstan and Jordan. Abdullah pointed to possible cooperation in defense and technology, as well as trade, investment and tourism, Kazakhstan’s presidency said.
