The National Hurricane Center (NHC) classified Josephine as post-tropical Thursday evening and forecast a brief wind increase before weakening, then ended its forecast and advisory series for the system.
The 5 p.m. ET bulletin placed Josephine near 40.0 degrees north and 65.8 degrees west, moving northeast at 15 knots. Sustained winds were 55 knots, with gusts reaching 65 knots, and the minimum central pressure was 988 millibars.
By 2 a.m. ET Friday (06:00 UTC), the NHC forecast sustained winds of 65 knots and gusts to 80 knots. An earlier NHC forecast projected 65-knot winds at 8 p.m. ET Thursday and 8 a.m. ET Friday; the latest advisory instead set 2 a.m. ET Friday (06:00 UTC) as the point for that wind speed. The agency expected winds to ease afterward and Josephine to dissipate by 2 p.m. ET Sunday (18:00 UTC).
An 11 a.m. ET NHC discussion had described Josephine as subtropical. The revised outlook follows an earlier forecast for Josephine's extratropical transition.
Thursday's bulletin was the NHC's final forecast and advisory for Josephine. For further marine information, the agency directed readers to the National Weather Service's high-seas forecasts.
