Jungkook and the rest of the BTS members are hugely successful today. However, it turned out that they also have that feeling of fear when the thoughts of disbandment crossed their minds.
Many idol groups are breaking up these days because of the challenges presented by having to compete with many groups. The newly-debuted teams also have to make themselves work even harder since they must also go against those who are already popular and known outside of South Korea.
BTS considered disbandment
Surprisingly, BTS, which is one of the most popular boy bands in the world, has also considered breaking up their group in the past. They may be topping the Billboard Music Chart today but when they were just starting, they almost disband due to hardships and difficulty of getting their band’s name out there.
Among the members, Jungkook was the most anxious and he revealed that he still has that overwhelming fear that BTS will also disband one day. The 23-year-old’s fear was recalled once again when the group’s movie “Break the Silence: The Movie” was released in September.
The band debuted in 2013 and they disclosed that in 2018, they thought of going their separate ways. It was Jin who shared this detail when they received an award at the 2018 MAMA in Hong Kong.
“We had a hard time mentally at the beginning of this year,” Koreaboo quoted Jin as saying in the acceptance speech. “While talking with each other, we even thought about disbanding.”
Jin said that amidst the struggles they had to endure, they persevere after deciding to continue their journey together. They said that they are happy they remained together because only good results followed after that.
Jungkook’s real feelings
Jungkook is the youngest in BTS and in the movie, he said that he was really concerned and still worries a lot.
“Looking back at what happened in 2018, it made me think, ‘What kind of path will I be on in 2019?’ I thought about it a lot that year, and my concerns doubled as well,” he said in the interview. He added that whenever he is alone and think about the possibility of disbandment, he could not shake the “overwhelming fear” that he feels.
Lastly, Jungkook said that he may be this anxious because if ever that time comes, there is not much he could do about it. It means that he just had to let go.
