‘Jurassic World 2’ director J.A. Bayona confirmed that his sequel is part of a planned trilogy featuring Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard in the lead roles as Owen and Claire. He also confirmed that the first film’s director Colin Trevorrow will continue to be involved in the series.
According to /Film, Bayona recently confirmed that his upcoming sequel to Trevorrow’s 2015 science-fiction and adventure will be part of a planned trilogy intended to reinvigorate the iconic ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise. Bayona also confirmed that although Trevorrow has stepped down from directorial duties to work on other upcoming projects, Trevorrow would still be heavily involved in the cinematic series.
During an interview with Latino Review while promoting his upcoming film ‘A Monster Calls’, Bayona talked about writing the film with Derek Connolly in time for a scheduled filming for February 2017 in Hawaii. He said, “I think they love ‘The Impossible’ and ‘The Orphanage’—especially Colin (Trevorrow) loved those movies… It’s very interesting. The whole ‘Jurassic World’ is a trilogy that Colin Trevorrow has envisioned.”
He continued, “We’re writing the second chapter, and it’s very interesting where he’s leading the story. I grew up watching Steven Spielberg movies and I love those movies and the legacy, so it’s a question of being truthful to the legacy and at the same time, bringing new stuff that people will appreciate. We are still six months ahead of shooting, and so far, so good. It’s very exciting right now.”
According to IMDB, the second installment will feature the return of Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard as velociraptor expert and trainer Owen Grady and operations manager Claire Dearing, respectively. The two served as the first film’s lead protagonists.
Trevorrow’s film broke several box office records upon its release on June 2015 and was deemed the highest-grossing film of that year. It earned $1.67 billion worldwide against a production budget of $150 million.
‘Jurassic World 2’ is a yet untitled science-fiction and adventure film intended as the fifth film in the popular ‘Jurassic Park’ franchise. It is the second film in the ‘Jurassic World’ series and is directed by J.A. Bayona of ‘The Impossible’ fame. Belen Ateinza, Patrick Crowley, and Frank Marshall are serving as producers while Steven Spielberg, Colin Trevorrow, and Thomas Tull are executive producing.
The sequel is scheduled to premiere in U.S. theaters on June 22, 2018.
