Just Eat says it will halt new AI image generation until its technology improves, after a test depicted a Belfast cafe's bacon-and-egg soda bread as an unrelated drink.
The company was testing the system on menu items without existing photos. In the Belfast case, the image showed the dish as a glass of cola containing bacon and an egg. The result appears to reflect a reading of “soda” as a drink.
The BBC quoted a Just Eat spokesperson saying faulty pictures were being withdrawn. The spokesperson said the company would produce no additional AI images until its technology had been further developed. Just Eat acknowledged that the system may not get every image right on an initial attempt.
The spokesperson said the company's photo services reach tens of thousands of small restaurants and include financial support for local professionals who photograph dishes.
