KFC Japan has unveiled its 2024 Tsukimi menu, featuring the return of its popular melty egg burgers, a moon-viewing Twister, and a new dessert. The seasonal offerings, inspired by Japan’s Moon-Viewing tradition, will be available at stores nationwide starting 29 August.

KFC Japan’s Tsukimi Menu Returns with Melty Egg Burgers and Limited-Edition Moon-Viewing Treats

Every year, people across Japan eagerly anticipate the autumn tradition of “Tsukimi” or “Moon-Viewing,” not only for the beauty of the autumn full moon, which this year will occur on 17 September but also for the limited-edition menu items that emerge at fast food chains.

Among these, the Tsukimi range from KFC is particularly awaited, as it offers Tsukimi burgers and a moon-viewing Twister and dessert. According to SoraNews24, this lineup is consistently one of Japan's most popular moon-viewing offerings this season. “Torori,” meaning “melty,” is a term KFC frequently uses for its savory Tsukimi items yearly, referring to the soft fried egg that creates a creamy, melt-in-the-mouth texture. In culinary circles, “Tsukimi” has become synonymous with meals containing eggs, as their round shape, especially when fried, is said to resemble the moon. The Torori Tsukimi Cheese Filet Burger is a perennial favorite, returning each year due to its popularity. The combination of runny egg, cheese, and fried chicken delivers a delicious blend of taste and texture.

Another standout in the range is the “Gutakusan” burger, named after its abundant ingredients. This burger features a tartar sauce that draws inspiration from various cuisines, incorporating over ten ingredients, including Japanese-style tartar sauce, carbonara-style sauce, and sukiyaki-style fillings. The burger is hearty, with 30 grams (1 ounce) of tartar sauce in each serving, adding a rich, melty flavor to the runny fried egg, teriyaki-glazed Japanese-style fried chicken cutlet, and shredded cabbage.

KFC Japan Introduces New Tsukimi Twister and Mochi Custard Pie for Limited-Time Offer

The KFC Twister, a popular alternative to burgers throughout the year, becomes even more appealing during Tsukimi season. Special teriyaki sauce and egg yolk sauce enhance the flavor of the “Colonel Krispy” chicken and fried egg.

The final item in the lineup is a delectable pie filled with rich, melty custard cream and chewy mochi (glutinous rice cake). This sweet treat is noted for its well-balanced flavor and texture, with the mochi specially developed through several prototypes to ensure it remains chewy and does not harden, even after takeout. KFC is particularly proud of this new pie for its taste and appearance.

This tasty new collection will be released at KFC stores across Japan on 29 August. However, stocks are limited, so customers are encouraged to act quickly to ensure they get all the benefits. Yoshinoya’s new lineup of moon-viewing beef bowls offers another enticing option for those who prefer beef.
