Global News reported candidates in two Kelowna-area ridings made final pitches on health care, affordability and jobs ahead of Saturday’s provincial vote; Elections BC data show Conservatives won both districts in 2024.

Elections BC set Oct. 24 as final voting day. The province is choosing 93 members of the Legislative Assembly, and the agency lists four candidates in each riding. In Kelowna-Mission, the list names Gavin Dew, Miriam Rycroft, Saoirse MacKinnon and Abraham Nordine. Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream’s candidates are Binny Boparai, Carter Mochinski, Pavneet Singh and Alexandra Wright.

British Columbia New Democratic Party Leader David Eby said Conservatives had taken the region for granted and that his party needed to work harder to win support, Global News reported. Eby said the party had to “earn every vote.” Conservative candidate Dew described a plan to open unused space at Kelowna General Hospital, the outlet reported.

In Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream, BC NDP candidate Boparai emphasized living costs and job creation, while Conservative candidate Singh raised homelessness, the economy and natural-resource development, according to Global News.

On Oct. 20, the BC NDP pledged $30 million for a Kelowna General Hospital expansion that would add a permanent sixth-floor inpatient unit. The announcement was a party pledge.

Elections BC’s 2024 results show Conservative candidates received 14,071 votes, or 51.49%, in Kelowna-Mission and 14,303 votes, or 53.92%, in Kelowna-Lake Country-Coldstream. The agency scheduled the final count for Nov. 6-10.
