The Kremlin says U.S. mediation on Ukraine remains active, but Moscow has no agreed plan for a possible meeting among the Russian, U.S. and Chinese presidents.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Monday that Moscow appreciates Washington’s continued involvement in efforts to end the war. Peskov said Kyiv would need to participate in any final settlement through a representative willing to assume responsibility.
Peskov said the idea of a meeting in China with Russian President Vladimir Putin, U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping arose in contacts between Putin and Trump. He said no concrete proposal or agreement on a meeting or agenda had followed, echoing the Kremlin’s earlier account of the summit idea.
Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiha said talks including Ukraine, Russia and the United States could bring the war to an earlier end. He warned that a meeting without Kyiv could encourage Putin to continue the war.
