“Last Man Standing” season 7 is expected to shed light on Mike Baxter’s (Tim Allen) political views. Allen even hinted that the character could be a supporter of U.S. President Donald Trump. Meanwhile, new actors have joined the show to take on the roles of Mandy Baxter and Boyd Baxter.

Allen and some producers of the show were in attendance at the Summer Press Tour 2018 of the Television Critics Association on Aug. 2. At the event, Allen and showrunner Kevin Abbott shared more “Last Man Standing” season 7 plot details.

The patriarch character has always been portrayed as a man with conservative views as an American. But as the debate on issues affecting Americans heightens, the show is expected to touch more on Mike’s say on politics in “Last Man Standing” season 7.

During the said press tour, Abbott reiterated (via Fox News) that Mike is a “is a conservative Republican.” However, the showrunner said the stories in “Last Man Standing” season 7 will not make a direct comment on or reference to Trump.

“[Mike] holds those ideals,” Abbott said. “But the character himself, I don’t think we’re going to address [Trump] one way or the other.”

On the other hand, Tim Allen has slightly different thoughts on where Mike actually leans towards in terms of politics. The actor repeatedly called his character a “centrist” instead of being an outright conservative Republican. "Whatever’s good for his business and good for the state of Colorado or any policies that he does he’s going to go with,” Allen explained.

Fans may recall that the series had been canceled by ABC for a year before Fox picked it up to release “Last Man Standing” season 7. Within this period, actors Molly Ephraim and Flynn Morrison had already been signed for other projects, which meant that Fox needed to recast the roles of Mandy and Boyd Baxter.

At the time of the TCA press tour, Abbott confirmed that they were close to casting the new actors to play Mandy and Boyd. Then, TV Guide reported that Fox announced on Monday that Molly McCook and Jet Jurgensmeyer were signed to portray Mandy and Boyd, respectively. "Last Man Standing" season 7 is set to air on Sept. 28.
