Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi held talks in Tehran on Oct. 19, reviewing earlier presidential contacts and ways to develop bilateral ties, Russia's Foreign Ministry said.

The ministry said the ministers revisited understandings from meetings between the countries' presidents in Bishkek on Sept. 1 and Avaza on Oct. 8.

Before the meeting, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova said the agenda would cover regional and international issues, including the situation around Iran. She also listed Russia's stated efforts to ease tensions and ways to strengthen the countries' comprehensive strategic partnership among the planned topics.

Moscow had identified follow-up to the presidential contacts as a topic when it announced Lavrov's planned Tehran visit.
