Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu and two education ministers are scheduled to meet student leaders at Matignon on Monday after more than a month of campaigning over school conditions and education reform.

Student demands have centered on school conditions and changes to education, with the campaign stretching beyond a month, Agence France-Presse reported. The agency said the government is being pressed to carry through with reforms it has promised.

The agency also reported weekend demonstrations over high schools and living costs. Parents, students, rights groups and opposition politicians criticized police conduct, it said. Several teenage protesters suffered serious injuries, while thousands were arrested, the agency reported.

Lecornu’s office announced the talks Sunday. It said Edouard Geffray, France’s national education minister, and Philippe Baptiste, the higher education minister, would attend at Matignon. The two ministers are scheduled to speak with journalists later Monday.
