Cole’s (Seann William Scott) initiation period as the newest detective in the Los Angeles PD continues in “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2. But Murtaugh (Damon Wayans) is having a hard time dealing with a new detective partner as well.
The preview for “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2 does not hide that fact that Cole is still trying to get familiar with his new colleagues and new working environment. He says it perfectly in a conversation with Dr. Cahill (Jordana Brewster): “I still have the ‘new-detective smell.’”
However, Cole seems to be cool about all these changes in his professional life. But the same cannot be said about Murtaugh’s case. For the most part of “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2’s trailer, Murtaugh is mumbling rants about the “new guy” to several people.
At one point in “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2, Murtaugh will talk to his wife, Trish (Keesha Sharp), about Cole not in a good way. Trish then tries to understand where her husband is coming from but it turns out Murtaugh does not really know much about Cole to feel that way.
Murtaugh also goes to Capt. Avery (Kevin Rahm) — who is also visibly worried about his run for the city council — to complain about Cole. But, again, Murtaugh does not seem to have solid grounds to do so in “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2. All Murtaugh can tell Avery is that he notices "red flags” in Cole.
In the other snippets of the “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2 preview, Cole is shown performing unconventional strategies while working on their case. He’s pulling a Spider-Man on a building and refuses to wear a bulletproof vest. But, in the end, he still catches the bad guy.
Regardless of the awkward situation Murtaugh and Cole are in, they have no reason to stop working. They will investigate the murder of a finance executive, according to the “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2 synopsis.
“Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2 is titled “Need to Know,” which is a phrase often pulled on a law enforcement officer who does not have high enough a clearance to be briefed about a certain case. Considering that Cole is a former CIA agent, the episode title might be hinting at some flashback scenes to his former assignments and what brought him to the LAPD.
The synopsis for “Lethal Weapon” season 3 episode 2 also reveals that fans will get a glimpse of Cole’s life as a father. Catch “Need to Know” on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 9 p.m. ET on FOX.
