London stab attack if proven as Islamic likely to fuel right wing populists across developed world

A knife-wielding 19-year-old man has killed a woman and injured another five in central London on Wednesday night. The man was arrested by police at the scene using an electric gun and the injured were taken to the hospital among which two are female and other three are male. The woman who was pronounced deal was attended by paramedics at the scene but failed to revive her, who was in her sixties.  The man was suspected of mental health issues but there could also be a terrorist angle to it. The UK has been at high alerts for months of possible terrorist attack on its soil.

If a terrorist angle is found or the attack gets linked to immigration, right-wing populists all across the developed world likely to see their support rise. Every time there is a terror attack in the developed world, support for leaders like Donald Trump, Marine La Pen, and Geert Wilders rises. Last month’s attack in Nice, France led to the rise of support of Marine, who could topple the Socialist government in France as well as defeat Sarkozy. The attacks in Germany that killed 15 have led to the rise in popularity of AfD Party.

Global terrorism is pushing vast majority of the democratic support move towards autocratic nationalism or rightwing populism.
