“Lost Ark” was released in North America and Europe just a few days ago, and it quickly became one of the most played games of all time on Steam. It is then not surprising that the free-to-play MMORPG is having some issues accommodating all players that want to join the game, so developer Smilegate has announced it is already working on adding new European servers.
To those not familiar with the game yet, the MMORPG originally launched in South Korea in 2019. It became available in Western regions last Friday and quickly climbed the top charts for Steam.
In an announcement post over the weekend, the developer confirmed that it had seen a massive increase in active users in just a few days after “Lost Ark” launched in more regions. But this success immediately created some problems, albeit good ones, as the currently available servers are hardly keeping up with the number of players trying to join the game. On the bright side, Smilegate confirmed that it is already working on adding more servers for European players.
“Arkesia is filled to the brim with eager players, so we’re working as quickly as possible to set up an entirely new region of servers in Europe,” the “Lost Ark” developer said. “Due to the game’s architecture this is the only way to accommodate more players in Europe so it’s a joint effort between Amazon Games and Smilegate RPG.”
There are going to be some caveats with the incoming servers, though. Smilegate explained that the servers will be opened as part of a “distinct new region” apart from Central Europe. That means the upcoming “Lost Ark” servers will not support cross-region play and that region-wide features currently available in Central Europe servers will not be accessible.
With the nature of how the new servers work, Smilegate noted that they would work best for new players who have not created a “Lost Ark” character yet. The developer also advised fans who plan on joining the new servers to wait before redeeming items that can only be accessed per one account, including the Founder’s Pack contents.
The MMORPG launched in new regions outside South Korea last Friday, but it is already one of the most-played titles of all time on Steam, per SteamDB data. As of this writing, “Lost Ark” has recorded an all-time peak of more than 1.3 million concurrent users beating other long-time Steam frontrunners, such as “Counter-Strike: Global Offensive” and “Dota 2.”
