MILPITAS, Calif. and LOS ANGELES, March 21, 2017 -- Lumentum Holdings Inc. (“Lumentum”) has added an industry-first small form factor TrueFlex Nano 1x9 WSS to its extensive portfolio of ROADM solutions for single-slot line card optical networking applications. This next generation Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCOS) TrueFlex 1x9 WSS is 42% smaller than conventional solutions and requires less operating power. Sample quantities are currently available.

“We fundamentally redesigned the WSS – from the component-level to packaging,” said James Goodchild, director, product line management, Wavelength Management. “This next generation LCOS-based Nano 1x9 WSS delivers the field-proven, high-reliability performance of our current Micro 1x9 WSS solutions in a dramatically smaller device.”
The TrueFlex Nano 1x9 WSS is in a single-slot low-profile 77x167x18.5 mm package, uses less than 20W at startup and less than 12W at steady state. It supports flex spectrum down to 3.125 GHz slot widths with accurate attenuation control. Lumentum customers using the current 80 pin/27mm Micro 1x9 can easily migrate to the TrueFlex Nano’s smaller form factor using a slot adapter, targeted to be available next quarter.
The TrueFlex Nano’s 1x9 WSS is targeted for broadcast and select applications and, in a dual deployment model enabled by its small size, for route and select applications. High-performance applications with high port isolation are enabled by a 1x5 variant.
“As operators drive managed DWDM networks further to the edge, a smaller form factor TrueFlex WSS is required for smaller edge shelves,” said Doug Alteen, vice president, product line management, Telecom. “Network equipment manufacturers can leverage the TrueFlex Nano 1x9 to reduce the power consumption of their ROADM blades while increasing density.”
Lumentum has an extensive portfolio of high-performance, wavelength selective switches supporting single-slot ROADM deployment in access, metro, regional, and long-haul networks. Many of these products will be on display at OFC 2017 from March. 20 – 23, 2017, in Los Angeles, Calif., at the Los Angeles Convention Center in Booth # 3001.
