Malaysia's Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI) said Nov. 2 that RM45.3 billion of investment prospects from overseas missions remains under negotiation, leaving most of the RM59.5 billion total awaiting agreement.

Of that total, RM14.2 billion has received approval. The figures cover 14 official visits and trade and investment missions led by Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and Investment, Trade and Industry Minister Johari Abdul Ghani from 2025 through September 2026.

Approval alone does not mean a project has been completed. MITI said projects typically take 18 to 24 months to materialize, with their size, complexity and economic conditions affecting the timetable. The Malaysian Investment Development Authority will continue tracking the prospects and helping move them toward implementation.

The visits also produced export activity, according to the ministry. It attributed RM6.77 billion in exports to high-level engagements during overseas trips that included destinations in Africa, Asia, Europe and South America.

Separately, MITI put Malaysian exports to Central Asia, Africa and Latin America at RM69.84 billion for January through September 2026, a 23.06% increase from a year earlier. The RM6.77 billion figure concerns exports attributed to the visits; the larger figure covers exports to the three regions over the nine-month period.

The ministry reported particularly strong percentage growth in several markets: exports to Namibia rose 426.1%, followed by Angola at 55.6%, Brazil at 41%, Tanzania at 35.9%, Ethiopia at 28.5% and Kenya at 11.6%. The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation is continuing export promotion in Central Asia, Africa and Latin America, MITI said.
