While the commitment to service excellence and the patient experience have always been important to Mariner Health Central, under the leadership of Dennis Sarcauga, its Executive Vice President of Operations, customer service has become a top priority. Mr. Sarcauga, who was a physician in the Philippines before moving to the United States, understands more than anyone the importance of bedside manner and open lines of communication between everyone who interacts with patients and their families.
“As part of our existing commitment to providing service excellence and enhancing the patient and family experience, as well as my personal commitment to providing comprehensive support services to our client facilities, Mariner Health Central has created the position of Regional Director of Customer Relations,” Dennis Sarcauga said. Mr. Sarcauga added, “My focus has always been on people. Recently, employees from every client facility participated in Leadership Training through the Disney Institute that was tailored exclusively for our clients. While at Disney, happy employees equals happy customers, our customers often come to us during the most stressful times in the lives. Through the customized training, we were able to brainstorm about ways to make the experience less traumatic. Additionally, through generous sponsorships, we were not only able to receive training, we were also able to hold our annual employee recognition dinner at the Disneyland Resort. We left Disneyland with soaring employee morale and some terrific insight into enhancing the patient experience, which is what led me to create the new Customer Relations position.”
Mariner Health Central’s Executive Vice President, Chief Strategy Officer and architect of the Disney initiative, Christine Zack, concluded “We were proud to partner with the Disney Institute. Disney’s message was empowering to employees of our client facilities and provided them with a cultural template to model. I believe the core message of promoting a strong set of values predicated on an unwavering commitment to service excellence resonated with our clients and has led them to focus on empathetic interactions with patients and their families.”
