Thaddeus Kirkland, Mayor of Chester. “The Bionic Beasts” were awarded first place for Robot Performance and second place overall out of 31 teams at the First Lego League (FLL) competition, held at Central High School, in January.
CCCS’s robotics team was founded in 2013 by Mr. Daniel Aulisio, who started a Lego-building and robot club after receiving Lego Mindstorms Robot kits for CCCS’s after-school program. He saw the untapped potential in the school’s students, and believed that the FLL would be something students could enjoy while also broadening their understanding of applied engineering.
In 2015, after receiving an “FLL In The City” grant through the University of Pennsylvania’s Grasp Lab, Mr. Aulisio was able to expand the club into a full robotics team and students were able to participate in their first competition.
