McDonald’s fans were shocked to find out how the fast-food giant prepares the onions it places on the food it sells after a 36-second TikTok video posted by a man claiming to be a McDonald's employee showcased the entire process.
The video offering a glimpse behind the scenes at McDonald’s has racked up over 8 million views in just over 24 hours but also elicited negative remarks.
In a 36-second video shared to TikTok by essentialmcdonalds, viewers are taken through the process that creates the diced onions.
The man in the video begins the process by pouring the contents of a sachet of dried onions into a plastic tub. He then fills the tub with water up to a designated line
Small bits of onion could be seen floating around the top of the tub, which was covered with a lid and placed in the fridge.
The McDonald's employee then explains that it generally takes two hours in the fridge before the onions are ready.
The mixture is then poured through a strainer to eliminate excess fluid, completing the process.
"There's your dehydrated onions," the man declares as the clip concludes.
TikTok users that viewed the video expressed disappointment in McDonald’s, with one saying that the fast-food giant crossed the line with the onion preparation.
