Houston, TX, May 18, 2017 -- UCOR, the Department of Energy's (DOE's) cleanup contractor for the Oak Ridge Reservation (the site of the Manhattan Project), has been awarded the prestigious 2017 EH&S Innovation Award at the Verdantix Summit this week.

UCOR is a long-time client of Medgate, having first implemented Medgate’s Occupational Health suite in 2006. More recently, UCOR expanded their use of Medgate when they activated Medgate’s Industrial Hygiene suite, allowing them to take advantage of Medgate’s integrated platform.
The Verdantix EH&S Innovation Award winners are selected by an independent jury of corporate EHS (Environmental, Health, and Safety) managers and the award is given to firms which have made innovative use of EHS technology to improve EHS outcomes. Nominations for the 2017 award were based upon a wide range of EHS technologies such as EHS data analytics, EHS software platforms, mobile devices running EHS mobile apps, and environmental data management, analysis, and modelling.
Independent experts have assessed UCOR's EHS operations and culture and concluded that UCOR enjoys a healthy safety culture. UCOR’s highly skilled workforce operates in the extremely challenging environment left behind by the Manhattan Project. Maintaining employee health and safety is the primary goal of the Health Services Department.
Medgate’s ability to perform trend analysis provides UCOR with the ability to proactively evaluate employee health and take action on a site and individual level. The Medgate solution provides UCOR’s medical professionals with a detailed picture of each employee’s health at each clinical visit. Based on this knowledge, specific evaluations and health teaching can address vulnerable conditions in order to maintain employee health and safety.
“We’re very happy to see UCOR recognized for their innovation in the EHS space,” said Medgate President and CEO Mark Wallace. “It’s great to see a long-time Medgate client receive recognition not only for their commitment to EHS but also for their use of software to achieve enviable EHS outcomes in such a unique and challenging work environment.”
