Customers of Brazilian exchange Mercado Bitcoin remain unable to deposit or withdraw as the company reports $12.9 million restricted and continues safety checks before restarting services.

The restricted amount is up from $11 million disclosed earlier. Mercado Bitcoin values all affected assets at about $36.3 million and says its account records continue to list customer balances.

The pause followed a security incident involving one of the exchange’s systems. Mercado Bitcoin previously said it contained the incident and reported no customer losses or leaks of customer data. The company is working to confirm services can safely resume.

Blockchain security firm Hypernative had flagged more than $40 million in suspicious transfers across several networks, according to its estimate cited in EconoTimes’ earlier coverage. Mercado Bitcoin had not confirmed that sum as a loss.

The exchange has not announced when deposits and withdrawals will return. Its initial suspension of those services followed the incident.
