Meta had publicly described its “personal superintelligence” vision by July 2025, while Tesla CEO Elon Musk used “SI” on an Oct. 21 robot call after a federal order set terminology for agencies.
President Donald Trump’s Executive Order 14434, dated Sept. 29, 2026, instructs executive departments and agencies, where law permits, to use “Super Intelligence” and “SI” in designated official, nonstatutory materials instead of “Artificial Intelligence” and “AI.” Private companies are outside the order’s stated requirements.
For the order, SI draws on the statutory AI definition in 15 U.S.C. § 9401(3). The directive gives the Assistant to the President for Science and Technology 60 days to submit proposed legislative language for a separate federal definition.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg said during the company’s Oct. 21 earnings call that Meta had discussed “personal superintelligence” for more than a year. The company had set out his vision publicly on July 30, 2025, over a year before Trump’s order. The call records do not link Meta’s terminology to the directive.
Musk used “SI” during Tesla’s Oct. 21 earnings call while discussing humanoid-robot demonstrations. Tesla’s third-quarter filing uses “SI” in a product heading. It says the company is investing in research and development to advance SI, software and fleet-based profits, and that the spending will reduce profitability in the current phase.
CNBC reported that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Alphabet CEO Sundar Pichai and Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella continued to use “AI” during their latest earnings calls. The outlet said Jassy used the term more than a dozen times in his opening remarks. Microsoft’s official transcript also records Nadella naming “Designing AI to empower people” among the company’s priorities.
Meta’s public description predates Trump’s order, but available records do not establish a connection between the federal action and either executive’s wording. The order’s next step is a legislative-language proposal from the science and technology adviser within 60 days.
