Mondelez International announces the release of the latest Oreo cookie that will be on sale for a limited time only. The company also tapped into the metaverse and launched its Oreoverse virtual space.
The new Oreo is called “the Most OREO OREO” because it is a cookie stuffed with Oreos inside. The product is made with chocolate wafers with extreme creme that has Oreo bits. It was said to have been created to offer a meta cookies-n-creme experience to customers.
Fans of Oreos can already find the new flavor as Mondelez is now offering them for pre-sale via the cookie brand’s website. It will be on the store shelves starting Jan. 30 and will retail at $4.99.
As per CNN Business, the packages will have a QR code that customers can scan to access the Oreoverse where they can play online games and win prizes. This will mark Oreo’s entrance into the metaverse.
At Oreoverse, those who will gain access will be able to interact with one another through avatars. Users can use their VR headsets to get into Oreo’s virtual space, while others can also use computers or smartphones.
"We are so excited to enter the metaverse! OREO is the cookie that begs to be played with and we love to create new opportunities for our fans to connect with each other and share that playful spirit," Oreo’s senior brand manager, Julia Rosenbloom, said in a press release. "The Most OREO OREO cookie gives fans a whole new way to playfully engage with us. By scanning the pack, they will 'dunk into' the new OREOVERSE world."
She added, "We could not think of a better duo to join us in the metaverse than the iconic Martha Stewart and her sidekick, Ryan. The two embody the OREO brand's playful spirit and, through their OREOVERSE experience, we hope to show just how much fun OREO fans can have together in our most playful world yet! Martha has mastered everything from cooking to crafts and we know she is going to master the OREOVERSE too!"
