Mick Schumacher's explosive rise to the top in the current Formula Three season championships has recently gained the attention of sporting industry giants who observed Michael Schumacher's legacy. But it seems that the attention that the younger Schumacher is getting is not necessarily about catapulting him to the top.
Ross Brawn, current Formula One managing director of motorsports, also known as “the mastermind” behind Michael Schumacher's seven world championship titles, recently gave his two cents about Mick Schumacher's career in autosport racing. In an interview with TASS, Brawn mentions that he believes Michael Schumacher's son needs a few more steps in experience before he is fully ready to compete in Formula One.
According to the autosport veteran, the logical step for Mick Schumacher after his praised Formula Three performance is to get into Formula Two first. Brawn mentions that Michael Schumacher's son can first focus on familiarizing himself with the tracks that he will encounter if he plans to go into Formula One. Thankfully, Formula Two and Formula One currently share certain environments which can help Mick Schumacher get used to the jump in competition from Formula Three while working on his performance consistency.
While Ross Brawn may seem straightforward about how he appraises Mick Schumacher's current capabilities, he does express joy at seeing Michael Schumacher's son performing well in Formula Three. According to Brawn, Mick Schumacher's current Formula Three performance brings back good memories for him. It seems that the Formula One managing director simply believes that Mick Schumacher can prepare better for his career in Formula One at the moment.
Fans worried that Mick Schumacher's career in Formula One is not coming fast enough can follow the rising star of British Formula One driver Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton's current records are already close to mirroring Michael Schumacher's legendary achievements, which essentially makes him the sport's current superstar. Should the younger Schumacher wish to compete against Hamilton in the future, he may need the added experience and preparation in Formula Two more than fans think.
Still, fans of Michael Schumacher can hopefully look forward to Mick Schumacher's promising career as a sign that the Schumacher legacy in autosports will be continued by the next generation.
