Michael Schumacher still holds the record for holding the most Formula One World Championships, five of which he clinched in a consecutive manner from 2000-2004. However, the German legend’s accomplishment is being threatened by Lewis Hamilton as the British racer now holds five of his own.
FIA (Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile) President Jean Todt recently revealed that he watched Hamilton’s performance with Michael Schumacher at the champion’s home in Switzerland, Fox Sports reported. The racing icon has yet to fully recover from the injuries he sustained during a skiing accident in 2013.
According to reports, Michael Schumacher fell down on an off-piste path that wasn’t prepared for skiers. The accident took most of the racer’s motor and cognitive skills with his weekly special care supposedly costing more than $140,000.
Jean Todt is among the few people who are allowed to visit Michael Schumacher since both men have formed a strong bond when the FIA president was still CEO of Ferrari during the icon’s heyday. Another person who has visited the accomplished driver is Archbishop Georg Gänswein.
The holy man recently revealed that he met Michael Schumacher in 2016 and got to interact with him personally. “I first talked to Corinna Schumacher and her mother, then a therapist brought Michael Schumacher into the living room. I introduced myself and told him that I was a secret fan, that I saw his races a lot and that I was fascinated how a man can steer such a machine at such a pace and in any weather,” Gänswein said.
New information regarding Michael Schumacher’s condition has been kept privy by the family as they wanted the German driver to recover peacefully without the media’s attention. So far, those who have visited him aren’t revealing major details about the racer’s current health in respect to the family’s wishes.
Even Todt was somewhat hesitant to share the abovementioned information. "Actually, I'm always careful when I say something. But it's true, I watched the Brazilian Grand Prix in Switzerland with Michael [Schumacher],” the FIA president said.
