Swedish digital forensics firm Micro Systemation reported a wider operating loss for the first quarter, as increased investments in product development continued to weigh on short-term profitability despite solid revenue growth. The company’s latest earnings highlight its focus on long-term expansion, recurring revenue, and innovation within the digital investigation and defense sectors.
Micro Systemation’s net sales rose 7.6% year-over-year to SEK 101.20 million, reflecting steady demand for its digital forensic solutions. When adjusted for currency fluctuations, revenue growth reached a stronger 14.7%, indicating underlying business momentum. However, higher spending on research and development impacted earnings, leading to an operating loss of SEK 7.40 million. This resulted in a negative EBIT margin of 7.30% for the quarter.
The company also reported a net loss of SEK 5.80 million, equivalent to negative SEK 0.31 per share. Despite these losses, Micro Systemation generated a positive adjusted free cash flow of SEK 1.50 million, suggesting some resilience in its cash management.
A key driver behind the company’s strategy is its continued investment in product innovation. Recent launches, including XRY Pro Express, alongside expanded device compatibility, have strengthened its product portfolio and enhanced customer value. These initiatives are designed to position the company for sustained growth in the competitive digital forensics market.
Micro Systemation also reported a notable increase in annual contract value, which grew 38% year-over-year in March. This surge reflects a growing base of recurring revenue, an important factor for long-term financial stability and investor confidence.
Looking ahead, the company acknowledged that ongoing investments may continue to impact profitability throughout 2026. However, it remains focused on expanding its presence in the defense sector and capturing new opportunities in emerging markets. By increasing its market share and strengthening its recurring revenue streams, Micro Systemation aims to balance near-term financial pressure with long-term growth potential.
