Microsoft’s fiscal 2026 revenue rose 18% to $331.8 billion, while its workforce contracted by about 5,000 for the first time in a decade, ending June with roughly 223,000 full-time employees.
The June 30 count compared with 228,000 a year earlier. U.S. staff made up 121,000 of the total; 102,000 employees worked elsewhere. The research and development group numbered about 77,000, some 4,000 below its 2024 high.
Microsoft cut about 4,800 jobs in July, after the year-end workforce count was taken. The company said AI would not serve as a direct substitute for the eliminated roles.
Microsoft’s investor-relations schedule lists its fiscal 2027 first-quarter results for Oct. 28.
