South Korean food companies will start selling not-so-spicy ‘mild kimchi’ products in the US and Europe to increase their presence in those markets.
Daesang Corp. recently invested 20 billion won in putting up a manufacturing plant in Los Angeles that could annually produce around 2,000 tons of mild kimchi in two types: one with salted seafood, and a ‘vegan’ style without it.
CJ Cheiljedang Corp., which is also making mild kimchi consisting of plant-based ingredients recipes without salted seafood, also plans to expand exports. It will enter H Mart, a US supermarket chain operating some 70 stores throughout the country, and set up a branch office in England for the European market.
Meanwhile, Sempio Foods Company has released two canned kimchi products, ‘Kimchi Original’ and ‘Stir-fried Kimchi,’ using the ‘yondu’ bean-based liquid seasoning instead of using fish sauce. It would be sold in the US and Europe.
Yondu helps create deep flavors while catering to the needs of vegetarians.
