More than 260 Local 282 members who drive for US Foods voted unanimously to give their union strike authority, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said, citing a risk to New York-area deliveries.

The union said a walkout could interrupt hundreds of deliveries serving schools, hospitals and restaurants across the New York tri-state area if the parties fail to reach an agreement. Drivers are seeking higher wages, improved benefits and safer working conditions. The announcement did not specify proposals or a possible strike date.

Tony Casten, a 20-year driver and Local 282 member, said a strike was not what workers wanted. “It’s the last thing we want to do.”

US Foods reported $39.424 billion in net sales and $676 million in net income for fiscal 2025, which ended Dec. 27, 2025. As of that date, the company had about 30,000 associates, including about 6,600 members of local unions affiliated with the Teamsters and other labor organizations.

US Foods’ annual report lists unsuccessful contract negotiations as a possible cause of work stoppages and warns that disputes at several locations may delay deliveries or block customer purchases. The Teamsters also said Local 2 and Local 190 are in contract disputes with the company but gave no details or possible strike dates for those groups.
