Bimbo Bakeries’ 275 warehouse and route sales workers in Chicago ratified a labor agreement hours before a planned strike, the International Brotherhood of Teamsters said Friday.

The union said the package covers pay for hourly and commission-based roles, health care, job protections and pension terms. It did not publish the contract or disclose the raises’ dollar or percentage amounts, the agreement’s length, its effective date or the vote tally.

The Teamsters said workers had been prepared to strike unless they received terms they considered fair. Corey Sims, a Local 734 member and Bimbo Bakeries shop steward, said solidarity mattered most: “staying united was the most important thing.”

The union describes Local 734 as representing thousands of workers in the Chicago area’s bakery industry. In a Sept. 11 announcement, the Teamsters said more than 200 workers represented by Locals 170 and 633 in New England approved a six-year Bimbo contract, with 90% voting in favor. That was a different bargaining group from the Chicago workers.
