After August's negative reading, Motio Research said its U.S. household-income momentum gauge rose above zero in September, bringing the candidate contraction it had identified the previous month to a close.

The September figure was +0.17%, compared with −0.35% in August, Motio said.

The firm described the broader household-income cycle as being in a later expansion phase. It said the Motio Rule had not triggered a recession warning.
