It looks like the hero tests aren't the only thing that Midoriya has to worry about in “My Hero Academia” season 3 episode 22. It seems Midoriya's past will resurface after his accomplishment of the final stage of the Provisional Hero Licensure Exam.
While Midoriya was able to pass the test against Gang Orca and his sidekicks in the last episode, Katsuki Bakugo – Midoriya's childhood bully – also underwent the Hero Licensure Exam but the results of his test have yet to be revealed.
In “My Hero Academia” season 3 episode 22's preview trailer, Midoriya mentions that Bakugo is calling him out for an unknown reason. The preview trailer also shows Bakugo and Midoriya facing off on an empty street at night. Titled “A Talk About Your Quirk,” it looks like Bakugo has discovered the origins of Midoriya's quirk and fans may have an idea why Midoriya's rival is absolutely fuming.
Fans may remember that Bakugo had the quirk of nitro-glycerinic sweat while Midoriya's quirklessness made him easy for the arrogant Bakugo to bully as a kid. Fans will also remember that both Bakugo and Midoriya look up to the hero All Might. This will play an important factor when the two characters grow up and may culminate in “My Hero Academia” season 3 episode 22.
Midoriya has had a contentious relationship with Bakugo ever since they started attending U.A. High School for training. Aside from the surprise that Midoriya acquired a quirk that essentially allowed him to also start quirk training, Bakugo's pride was hurt when Midoriya rescued him after they both faced off against All Might during the first term's final exam. While Bakugo may have been tempered by Midoriya's recent successes, it seems that the young quirk still retains his arrogance and pride in “My Hero Academia” season 3 episode 22.
Midoriya will most likely end up fighting Bakugo in “My Hero Academia” season 3 episode 22 if Midoriya's childhood bully discovers that the protagonist's quirk stems from the “One For All” power given by All Might himself. This would be Bakugo's chance to prove to Midoriya that he is the better hero despite Midoriya gaining All Might's blessing. If Bakugo also failed his Hero Licensure Exam, unlike Midoriya, the childhood bully may have more reason to be angry with the show's protagonist.
Fans looking forward to Bakugo and Midoriya's showdown can catch “My Hero Academia” season 3 episode 22 airing on Sept. 8.
