The preview for “NCIS” season 16 episode 5 is out and viewers are looking at another heart-rending case for the team. It involves exonerating an imprisoned Marine by reviewing a 50-year-old case. Unfortunately, it might cause a rift between Gibbs (Mark Harmon) and Vance (Rocky Carroll) along the way.
The case of the day on “NCIS” season 16 episode 5 will begin once the team recovers a “50-year-old tape recording” left by a murder victim. This is most likely going to uncover new details and leads, giving Gibbs’s team the chance to review the case that sent an innocent Marine, Ray Jennings (Charlie Robinson), to jail for decades.
While taking a fresh look at the case is pertinent, it is clear that the endgame in “NCIS” season 16 episode 5 is ending Ray’s erroneous conviction. The murder case might also be linked to an explosion in a base camp 50 years ago. The preview also shows a troubled Gibbs consulting Sloane (Maria Bello), saying, “A Marine is serving time for a crime he did not commit.”
However, Vance always has to play the patronizing politician while Gibbs is the rule-bending agent who will stop at nothing to do the right thing. That has been the dynamics of their relationship for many seasons but it apparently leads to a serious complication in “NCIS” season 16 episode 5.
Vance tells Gibbs that a certain request is denied due to insufficient evidence in “NCIS” season 16 episode 5. Presuming that it is about exonerating Ray, Gibbs will definitely not take no for an answer. Gibbs then tells Vance, “Looking for a fight on this, Leon? Because I’ll give you one.”
If Vance insists on not pursuing the denied request, Gibbs’s only choice is to nail every aspect of the 50-year-old case in “NCIS” season 16 episode 5. Gibbs and his team always save the day and, hopefully, getting an innocent Marine out of a life sentence will add to their list of accomplishments.
The police procedural series has a new episode every week. “NCIS” season 16 episode 5 will air on Tuesday, Oct. 23, at 8 p.m. ET on CBS.
