The National Hurricane Center (NHC) put Manzanillo’s five-day cumulative chance of sustained winds reaching 39 mph at 52% in Friday’s outlook, the highest probability among the named coastal locations listed.
At 5 a.m. ET (0900 UTC) Friday, Oct. 23, Vance had maximum sustained winds of 85 mph (140 km/h), the NHC reported.
For winds of at least 39 mph, the table listed 32% for L CARDENAS, 27% for BARRA NAVIDAD and 4% for ACAPULCO. Manzanillo’s chances of winds reaching 58 mph and 74 mph were 19% and 8%, respectively.
The NHC had also warned that Vance’s swells could bring hazardous surf and rip currents to Mexico’s southern and southwestern coasts. EconoTimes covered that hazard outlook in its earlier report on Vance’s forecast.
The NHC table spans five days, through 2 a.m. ET Wednesday, Oct. 28. The percentages cited above are cumulative estimates of reaching each wind threshold during the forecast period, not current wind readings at those locations.
